LPT: Motion Components – igus Plastic Pillow Block Bearings, SCHNEEBERGER Linear Guideway & More

AST Tapered Roller Bearings

AST has introduced a line of high carbon chromium steel tapered roller bearings. These bearings are comprised of four basic components: The cone (inner ring), the cup (outer ring), tapered rollers and a cage (roller retainer). The cone, cup and rollers carry the load while the cage spaces and retains the rollers on the cone. The cone, rollers and cage are referred to as the cone assembly. Individual cup and cone components are available as well as the complete assembly.

igus has launched its xirodur B180 plastic pillow block bearings. Plastic bearings are often used in continuously-operating roller conveyors and conveyor belts to ensure that the shafts rotate smoothly under heavy loads. In contrast, metallic pillow block bearings require external lubrication, which increases the likelihood of contamination.

The B180 is flushable and suitable for application environments of up to 176 F. The bearings can also withstand with up to 110 pounds and 850 revolutions per minute. Additionally, the B180 bearings reduce the overall weight of the device by 83 percent.

IKO Lubrication for Cam Followers

IKO has released two lubrication options for cam followers: a self-lubricating solution for the cam follower itself, as well as an external mechanism that lubricates the bearing surfaces against the rail. C-Lube cam followers include a thermoset solid lubricant prepacked into the bearing space for long lasting, maintenance-free operation. Stud diameters are available from 5 to 20 mm.

NTN Profile Ball Rails and Linear Shafting

NTN Automation has released profile rails, runner blocks, ball bushings and shafting systems as part of its new Automation Division. According to Jim Mangan, Vice President of NTN’s Automation Division, “With available rail sizes ranging from 15 mm to 55 mm, NTN’s standard length rail offering is 4000mm but we have the capability to cut the rail to the length to meet customer requirements. Additionally, rails are available with through holes or tapped holes, allowing customers to mount from either the top or bottom.”

SCHNEEBERGER Linear Guideway System

SCHNEEBERGER has developed a linear guideway system designed to prevent cage creep. Cage creep can become a problem in linear bearings when strokes need to be repeated frequently during the handling process. The company’s FORMULA-S has cage controls for the RN and the RNG guideways to ensure trouble-free operation and a long service life.

The FORMULA-S’ cage control system works in any installation orientation, regardless of the preload of the guideway. It is also produced for three different sizes in the RN series (3, 4 and 6), as well as for the RNG (4, 6 and 9).
