MagicJet Provides Underwater Propulsion

The engineers and designers at Shenzen Aquarobotman Science Technology LTD founded their company to focus on using technology to help explore the aquatic world. After developing the Nemo Underwater Drone in 2016 the group worked through a 2019 CES launch and then began to focus on personal propulsion. Their current project is the MagicJet, a underwater scooter to help users move underwater.

The 600 Watt engine for the MagicJet can produce up to 10 kilograms force of thrust and achieve a top speed of 1.8 meters per second. The 155.5 Watt hour 22.2 Volt battery provides up to 100 minutes of running time on a charge, after a 3 hour battery charge time. The system can descend down to 164 feet deep. The system is designed for one handed operation while the user holds the stalk, two handed steering mode holding handles on the side of the unit, or provides a locking collar to combine two units together for more power. The system is 38.5 x 36 x 18.2 centimeters and weighs 3.6 kilograms with the battery included.

Discussing the design of the system the campaign page touches on the propeller guard to protect body parts from the turbine blades, the heat sinks built into the housing, three Go Pro mounts designed into the unit, and the one handed battery replacement that can happen underwater. The FAQ section of the campaign says that the 155.4 Watt hour battery is below the air transport standard so it should be cleared for air travel provided the user gets approval from the airline. Certification testing has taken place through CE, FC, RSE, ROHS, UN38.3, and MSDS.

The MagicJet feels like a good addition to the surprisingly crowded underwater scooter field. Beyond an incredible name, Aquarobotman is working to distinguish the scooter from competitors by starting with a lower price point and providing an modular battery designed for easy changes. The Kickstarter campaign is not yet successful and ends on June 28, 2019.
