IoT Analyzer Kit Pushes for Digitized Pneumatics

Emerson recently unveiled a new portable solution, the AVENTICS Smart Pneumatics Analyzer—a tool that helps pneumatic system users integrate and enjoy the benefits of IoT. The technology offers predictive maintenance for diagnostics such as compressed air consumption and even possible leakages. The whole device operates on a simple plug-and-run application, allowing it to integrate seamlessly in any digital environment.

The portable analyzer case includes a Smart Pneumatics Monitor, AS series air preparation units, and a tablet to visualize live data. Emerson personnel use the analyzer to demonstrate to a user how IoT-enabled data can be used for insights into their own machine.

The monitor can perform numerous tasks. It starts by detecting the current state of the operating system. Data is then analyzed, and information is provided for, for example, status-oriented maintenance. The difference between the AVENTICS and other existing solutions is that the former evaluates data locally. This means that it no longer collects whatever data is available to transfer it unfiltered. Instead, AVENTICS can generate information about the system in real time.

This poses a significant advantage for IoT application users. Since it can anticipate issues before they lead to machine downtime, this can reduce maintenance cost while increasing the availability of equipment.

“By digitizing the pneumatic environment, the Smart Pneumatics Analyzer provides users with the option to directly experience the benefits and potential of IoT applications on their own machine—in just a few simple steps,” says Dr. Michael Britzger, senior manager, digital transformation for pneumatic technologies at Emerson Automation Solutions.

When defined limits have been reached, the device can send a message to ERP and MES systems—plus maintenance staff. “It's important to us to support our customers in their digitization process as equals,” adds Britzger. “Based on the analysis results, we therefore also further develop the Smart Pneumatics Analyzer together with our customers, especially for their application. This way, users can experience and apply the added value of IIoT for themselves.”

In addition to being demonstrated by Emerson associates, the analyzer is available for sale to users if they would like to keep the unit at their facility. Learn more here.
