FogHorn Develops Edge Computing IoT Manufacturing Solution

Internet of Things (IoT) developer Foghorn recently collaborated with ADVICS and Macnica Networks to create a new intelligent factory solution. The FogHorn Lightning edge computing software platform is the company’s newest product portfolio. The Lightning platform is equipped with machine learning and AI capabilities. The technology enables on-site data processing, producing real-time analytics for quick response efforts. ADVICS recently deployed the technology in its manufacturing sites.

The Lightning platform embeds edge intelligence as close to the source of sensor data as possible, providing real-time analysis of disparate streams of sensor data. Machine learning lets the software consistently optimize its performance, even against diverse compute environments.

The software was initially used by ADVICS to digitize its manufacturing sites. ADVICS partnered with Macnica Networks for its smart factory transition, taking advantage of the benefits of IoT. FogHorn was able to provide equipment data for predictive maintenance and condition monitoring. The upgrade allowed operations to immediately identify production issues. Real-time visualizations allowed for improvements in manufacturing efficiencies. According to ADVICS, manual workloads for data acquisition have been significantly reduced, opening up more opportunities for operations to focus on managing production.

“ADVICS digital transformation to a smart factory reflects their mission to contribute to the reliability of society by pursuing a better safety, environment and comfort through products that delight customers,” said Yuta Endo, vice president, general manager of business development and head of APAC operations at FogHorn. “We are excited to work with our partner, Macnica Networks, to help ADVICS enhance manufacturing efficiency. FogHorn Lightning is uniquely positioned to help companies transform streaming data into actionable, predictive insights right at the edge, providing real-time monitoring and diagnostics, streaming analytics, machine learning and operations optimization.”
