Telit Introduces New Modules Ideal for Transition to 4G NB-IoT

IoT component manufacturer Telit has announced the release of two new additions to its portfolio: the NE310H2-W1 and NL865H2-W1 Narrow Band-IoT (NB-IoT) modules. The new modules were created for users looking to transition from 2G to 4G NB-IoT. Telit claims the new modules offer more efficient power usage and enhanced coverage for connectivity.

The NE310H2-W1 is designed to cater to size-constrained applications requiring low power consumption. It has a 15x18mm LGA form factor and is pin-to-pin compatible with 2G and LTE-M modules of the miniature Telit xE310 family. The module is compliant with 3GPP Release 14 Cat NB2 and is backward compatible with 3GPP Release 13 and LTE Cat NB1 (3GPP is the standards body governing cellular technology standards and protocols). According to Telit, these features make the NE310H2-W1 ideal for high yield, low-cost manufacturing.

The NL865H2-W1is designed to make it easy for users to upgrade and future-proof their devices that operate on Telit’s 2G and 3G xL865 modules. The NL865H2-W1 has a 24.4x24.4mm VQFN form factor and is LTE UE Category NB2 compliant to 3GPP Release 14. The module also includes an optional built-in eSIM for connectivity.

Back in 2015, the number of IoT-connected devices was at 13.4 billion. That figure is predicted to reach 38.5 billion by 2020. This has spurred the growth of the NB-IoT chipset market, which is currently valued at $272 million. Telit’s portfolio is designed to extend connectivity coverage in applications that could most benefit from low power and enhanced coverage without high data rate requirements, in industries including smart metering for utilities, smart cities, and smart agriculture.

“The launch of NE310H2-W1 and NL865H2-W1 will address some of the major challenges OEMs, integrators and device designers have been facing,” said Telit’s Manish Watwani. “Particularly for connectivity and battery life, our new modules dramatically increase the number of data points they can collect from their operations and customers via IoT devices. With IoT now possible at scale and cost, it makes many previously unviable deployments ROI positive.”


Samples of the new modules are currently shipping. Commercial shipments will be available in Q1 2020.
