3D Scanning Speeds Repair Time in Pipe Leak Averting Costly Downtime

Before scanning metrology, reverse engineering was done painstakingly with hand tools and drafting techniques. Today, 3D metrology enables engineers to solve old challenges, such as a leaking split valve on a hyper compressor, with new technologies.

In this video, Dimensional Engineering, an engineering firm out of Houston, Texas explains how 3D scanning technology was applied, along with other technologies including 3D printing and unique CAD modeling combining both dimensional and STL data.

Using the FARO 8-Axis Design ScanArm, Dimensional Engineering was able to help the refinery client avoid hundreds of thousands of dollars in downtime, cost and lost revenue.
