Cloud robotics company CloudMinds Technology has donated medical 5G cloud robots to hospitals in Wuhan and Shanghai to help fight the coronavirus.

The CloudMinds donation included the company’s standard medical assistant, medicine delivery, disinfecting cleaning, and temperature measuring and inspecting robots. The cloud robots allow medical staff to remotely take patient measurements, deliver medicinal treatments, and clean and disinfect surfaces. Remote care reduces the likelihood of the infection spreading among hospital personnel and allows tighter quarantine control.

“It is especially in dangerous situations such as these, that pose a high risk to humans, that cloud robots can offer valuable assistance,” said CloudMinds CEO Bill Huang. “Cloud robots can act as proxies for medical staff in quarantine facilities to perform basic monitoring duties, lowering chances and risk of exposure.”

The cloud robots were sent to Shanghai Sixth People’s Hospital, Wuhan Union Hospital, and Wuhan Tongji Tianyou Hospital.

CloudMinds partnered with telecom China Mobile to deploy and operate its cloud robots. CloudMinds used the telecom’s 4G/5G network to access its HARIX cloud operating platform and VBN Robotic private network.

CloudMinds has offered to open up its cloud platform to work with other robotics companies in an effort to launch medical robots to the locations in China with the greatest need. The company has already paired with YouDi Robotics and Gaussian Robotics to aid its relief efforts.

In further efforts to help prevent the spread of the coronavirus, CloudMinds has also set up a project team called Step Forward to target epidemic prevention in environments like hotels and hospitals.
