Dr. Sara Safari is a college professor and an electrical engineer. An avid mountain climber, she’s the first Iranian in history to conquer the Seven Summits—the highest mountains on each of the seven continents—all to raise funds for organizations empowering women. Dr. Safari is the recipient of the Global Citizen award from the United Nations Association, as well as an award for Outstanding Practice with Broad Impact in the area of women and leadership from the International Leadership Association. An author of three books chronicling her life, Dr. Safari is currently working on a feature film and a documentary centered around complex social justice issues.
Dr. Safari will also be an inspirational keynote speaker at the TIPE 3D Printing conference, the industry’s first all-female agenda of additive manufacturing speakers, which will be held virtually on January 27-28, 2021.
Apart from celebrating diversity in 3D printing, the event will feature speakers addressing areas of expertise, sharing thought leadership, and discussing initiatives and applications of additive manufacturing technologies. Successes, ongoing work and forward-looking strategies will be emphasized, and four primary tracks will be highlighted:
- Technology: An overview of the latest technological innovations in additive manufacturing.
- Industry: A discussion of industry application use cases, featuring technologists as well as end users.
- People: A human-centered approach to additive manufacturing, focusing on the people shaping the industry.
- Economics: The economic and social impact of additive manufacturing and on-demand manufacturing.
The global conference will involve over 40 presentations from female 3D printing industry leaders across the aerospace, medical, consumer, automotive, industrial, non-government and non-profit sectors. Additive manufacturing change makers will include representatives from Boeing, Ford, Cummins, HP, Xerox, Carbon, EOS, US Army, RMIT, University Federal de São Paulo, LEO Lane, Wikifactory, STEMConnector, AM-Cubed, MakeLab, Additive Integrity and America Makes.

The TIPE 3D Printing conference is being put together by Women in 3D Printing (Wi3DP), a non-profit organization dedicated to promoting, supporting and inspiring women working in the additive manufacturing industry. Since its inception in 2014, Wi3DP has evolved into one of the world’s largest additive manufacturing communities, with 10,000+ members in over 65 chapters across 23 countries.
