NavVis, a provider in the movement to digitize and create useful 3D models and maps of the built environment, announced a rebranding and relaunch of its NavVis IndoorViewer as NavVis IVION. With its relaunched flagship platform and product, NavVis is taking a big step forward in how it serves building owners, operators, engineers and construction teams as they work to generate digital twins from their data and bring the physical world and the digital world closer together.

NavVis IVION will be broken down into two standalone products that serve users in different industries. NavVis IVION Core is geared toward the AEC industry, while NavVis IVION Enterprise focuses on factory planning, operations and engineering. The two products were created to better address specific feedback and requests for different applications and functionality from a diverse set of users working in different industries. Both versions of IVION are packed with new features and improvements geared toward working efficiently and generating models quickly and accurately.

NavVis IVION Core: For the AEC Industry

At its core, IVION Core is a 3D scanning platform that speeds up the generation of digital twins for the AEC industry. AEC professionals who turn to IVION Core have a powerful software platform that eliminates the need to purchase high-end computers and complicated software that is difficult to learn. IVION Core makes it possible for more staff members to become familiar with the technology, rather than requiring firms to employ 3D scanning specialists with a limited role. IVION Core quickly transforms point cloud data or panoramic scans into intelligent spaces and models that can be accessed by team members on a web-based platform.

"NavVis IVION Core is a great tool that we use to provide our clients with a viewer, giving the end-user the most efficient visuals to understand any building,” said Eamon Lynch, engineer and project manager at 360 Energy.

The key benefits of IVION Core that NavVis highlights are:

  • Increased efficiency in data processing, publishing and delivery of scan data online
  • Easily manipulate, plan and measure a building
  • Share data between team members and clients quickly on a web-based platform that everyone can share
  • Offer clients a new type of deliverable that adds value to working relationships
  • Optimize scan-to-BIM workflows

NavVis IVION Enterprise: For Factory Modeling

NavVis IVION Enterprise was created with factory stakeholders in mind and the understanding that conditions change quickly on the production floor and may not be consistently documented. IVION Enterprise makes it possible for workers at every level of the factory operation to see exactly what is going on with a digital twin of their floor. Decision-making can improve with better factory data that is current and accurately reflects how equipment is currently situated and operating on the floor.

“Offering remote access to a production network through an intuitive web interface provides stakeholders with all the necessary information to make the right decisions with confidence,” said Stefan Sander, NavVis global head of Enterprise Professional Services.

The key benefits of IVION Enterprise that NavVis highlights are:

  • Reduce the need for extensive travel between factories by using digital models
  • Enhance industrial production by relying on current and reliable data
  • Quickly compare current conditions with as-built plans and address action items
  • Build a virtual factory where changes can be modeled, simulated and evaluated with suppliers and clients

NavVis has also developed an additional module for IVION Enterprise that works on mobile devices called IVION Go. The IVION Go app works on both iOS and Android and combines AR positioning technology with a user interface that allows factory workers to interact with the digital twin of their factory while walking the production floor and logging observations and issues that are tied to a location and sent back to the rest of the team.

Digital Twins Fuel Collaboration in the New World of Work

Digital twins continue to build momentum as the new standard for BIM in the engineering industry. Adoption by AEC professionals and industrial workers will be driven by the simplification of software platforms that power the creation of these unique models. It isn’t the availability of the technology that’s holding the engineering community back from more actively using and relying on digital twins in their BIM workflow. It’s the complicated software and steep learning curve. NavVis aspires to change this by developing more user-friendly, web-based platforms to digitize physical assets and thereby increase the use of digital twins by the engineering industry, especially as remote work trends continue to accelerate and become the norm.
