Attendees of EuroMold were treated to a first look at the Blueprinter SHS, a desktop, low-cost 3D printer for sintered plastic parts. The company plans to begin shipping the unit within Europe this summer and has tentative plans to launch it in the U.S. late this year.

The introductory price is €9,995 (approximately $13,000) and material will have and introductory price of €65 per kilogram ($30 per pound).

Blueprinter SHS uses proprietary selective heat sintering (SHS) technology. A thermal print head melts powdered thermoplastic as it passes over the bed. This machine measures 40 x 24 x 24 inches and produces parts up to 6.3 x 7.9 x 5.5 inches with a 0.004-inch layer thickness. According to the company, it can build at speeds of 0.4 inch per hour.
