Print/3D: An Exhibit of Works of Additive Manufacturing

Design by Studio Dror

Material ConneXion presents a new exhibition, Print/3D , featuring the latest 3D-printed objects and designs from an array of artists, designers and manufacturers. The exhibit runs at Material ConneXion, 60 Madison Avenue, 2nd floor, New York, NY from February 28th to May 11th, 2012.

Advancements in additive manufacturing (AM) are spurring a paradigm shift in digital design and production that is impacting disciplines from industrial design to the art world. New technologies are making it possible to more rapidly and cost effectively produce prototypes, as well as make final quality pieces such as jewelry and objets d’art.

“From relatively humble beginnings, additive manufacturing has rapidly become one of the most innovative new methods of production,” said Dr. Andrew Dent, who heads up research for Material ConneXion’s library. “The advances in material types and combinations, AM methods and the constantly increasing process speeds demonstrate a technology that will continue to push the boundaries of what is possible. It has the potential to completely change the way we make everything,” he added.

Print/3D will show a wide range of 3D printed pieces from the fields of furniture, fashion, jewelry, medicine and product design. Shapeways, Bespoke, .MGX by Materialise, Studio Dror, LGM and ElasticBrand among others, have all supplied examples of works to explore in this exhibit.
