Arcam and Oak Ridge National Laboratory offer EBM Additive Manufacturing to US industry

Swedish additive manufacturing specialist Arcam AB and Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL), Tennessee, USA, have signed a co-operation agreement under which the parties will facilitate the introduction of Arcam’s Electron Beam Melting (EBM) technology to US industry through a new Manufacturing Demonstration Facility (MDF).

ORNL purchased its first Arcam EBM system in 2009. Since that time, ORNL and Arcam have worked together to create opportunities for US industry to adopt Arcam’s EBM technology to meet emerging advanced manufacturing challenges.

Under a new ‘Cooperative Research and Development Agreement’ Arcam and ORNL will deepen their collaboration, with Arcam locating an application development center at ORNL to further support US industry.

Magnus René, CEO at Arcam, said, “With this collaboration with Arcam, we see exciting new opportunities to fulfill our mission to support US industry in their quest for growth through advanced manufacturing technology, says Craig Blue, Program Director for Advanced Manufacturing and Manufacturing Demonstration Facility at Oak Ridge National Laboratory.”

ORNL’s scientific programs focus on materials, neutron science, energy, high-performance computing, systems biology and national security. ORNL has more than 800 on-going industry partnerships, hosts more than 30,000 visitors annually and is DOE’s premier energy and materials national laboratory.
