AeroSud, known primarily as an aeronautical engineering and manufacturing company, is currently building a 3D printer capable of manufacturing aircraft components 10 times faster than “any equivalent machine” and will be nearly 46 times larger than any printer capable of making metal parts.
The introduction of large-scale additive manufacturing to the aerospace industry has incredible cost-saving and design implications for aircraft operators and manufacturers.
John Newman of RapidReadyTech notes, “AeroSud can use variable-density printing to reduce the overall weight of parts, which in turn will reduce the amount of fuel consumed. According to one study performed, reducing the bulk of an aircraft by just a couple pounds can save upwards of $3,000 per year.”
More and more we are finding that industries are embracing additive manufacturing as the way of the future. As more industries adopt the technology, we’ll see that the sky is the limit to for 3D printing, just ask AeroSud.
