TransMagic MagicCheck: Just To Make Sure Your Models are Alright

Inspiration for this post:

Late last week TransMagic rolled out MagicCheck, their latest product capable of facilitating the comparison of multiple 3D models, highlighting their differences, and producing reports in nearly any context required.

MagicCheck can be applied in a variety of situations today, but to illustrate, let’s consider one of the most common scenarios; getting your design fabricated by an outside vendor.  After all it's no longer just as simple as sending them a CAD file one day, and receiving perfect finished parts the next.

Today companies often look to ensure data validity at both ends of that process.  They now look to both produce pre-translated datasets and validate them against the master 3D model before sending them on to a supplier.  And then again by validating the resulting physical parts received against the same master 3D model.  It used to be that companies had to turn to multiple vendors to properly address translation, validation, and compliance issues.  MagicCheck can now reduce those concerns to a single vendor.

That isn't the only type of situations that MagicCheck delivers on...

  • Revision Control comparison of multiple part files to show changes.
  • Produce analysis reports to document compliance concerns.
  • Reads native 3D CAD formats (CATIA, Pro/E, NX, SolidWorks, Inventor & AutoCAD)
  • Reads neutral 3D CAD formats (Parasolid, ACIS, IGES, STEP, STL, & JT)
  • Imports external point cloud data from CAD, Excel, or CSV files.

With the addition of MagicCheck, it's hard to imagine anything TransMagic can't do with 3D CAD data.

My Take

It's interesting to see how TransMagic has been able to successfully leverage their strong 3D geometry platform and evolve it to suit developing edge markets for the disciplines they already serve.  I believe this strategy will continue to strengthen the value of a company like TransMagic in a market that is rapidly evolving and ripe for continued consolidation.  The strong will survive while the weak continue to fade away.

I’d love to hear your opinion.  Feel free to chime in below…
