According to Forbes magazine the average price of a car in the US is $30,303. Unfortunately, that amount can’t buy you out-of-this world performance. Top-gear performance costs north of $250,000. But even that amount of cash doesn’t touch the price of these supercars.
1. Maybach Exelero: $8,000,000
The Maybach Excelero is a 700hp, twin v12, one of a kind sports car. Created at the request of the Fulda Tire Company, the Exelero is a reference vehicle for testing new tire designs. The design of the Excelero pays homage to Maybach’s test vehicle from the 1930’s – the Maybach SW38.
2. Bugatti Veyron Supersport $2,600,000
While the Bugatti Veyron may be significantly less expensive than the Exelero, it‘s still a pretty decent ride. The Volkwagen group’s premier automobile features a sixteen cylinder W16 engine capable of producing 987 bhp. Named by BBC’s Top Gear television program as the “Car of the Decade” the Veyron can reach a top speed of 431km/h (267.8 mph).
3. Ferrari 599XX $2,000,000
What would a list of expensive super cars be if we were restricted to street legal? Designed for track use only, the Ferrari 599XX’s engine will create 720 hp and can complete the Nordschleife circuit of the Nürburgring in an astonishing 6 minutes 58.16 seconds. The main innovation behind the Ferrari’s remarkable performance is it’s us of composite and carbon fiber parts. Add to that a completely redesigned gearbox shift scheme and a rev limiter that tops out at 9000 rpm and you’ve got yourself a machine truly built for speed.
4. Zenvo ST1 $1,800,000Built around a supercharged 7-litre V8 engine, the Zenvo ST1 generates 1,250 hp rocketing the car from 0-200 km/h in only 8.69 seconds. Yes, that’s about 0-125 mph in 8.7 seconds. Limited to a production of 15 cars per year the Zenvo ST1 is completely customizable. The first ever Danish supercar was created by noted designer Christian Brandt. Unlike the Ferrari 599XX the car was built to be used by the everyday driver. What else would you expect from Danish designers?
5. Koenigsegg Agera $1,711,00
The last entry on our list is also Scandanavian. Built in Sweden the Koenigsegg Agera sports a 4.7 liter V8 engine with twin fixed-vane turbo chargers. Capable of a maximum speed of 390km/h the car will race from 0-200 km/h in 8.9 seconds. The body is made from a Kevlar reinforced carbon fiber material and only needs lightweight reinforcements. At high speeds the Agera’s electronically controlled rear wing can adjust to the perfect compromise between low-drag and optimal down-force making the car more stable at higher speeds.
