World Record Acceleration from the Venom GT

Just south of Houston lies Ellington Airport. Formerly known as Ellington Air Force Base, it was once NASA’s training ground for the Apollo missions and still continues to be home to some world firsts.

Hennessey Performance Engineering specializes in “making fast cars faster”. Most of their business is focused on tuning Ferraris, Dodges and Mercedes.  Now the company has branched out to create their own vehicle, the Venom GT.

Sporting a 7 liter, twin turbocharged V8 engine and framed by a modified Lotus Exige chassis, the Venom GT was designed to be the fastest car ever made, and on January 10, 2013, Hennessey decided to prove it.

Timed on two runs along Ellington’s 8000 foot tarmac, the Venom GT shattered the previous record – set by the Koenigsegg Agera – and went from 0 to 300 kilometers per hour in an average of 13.68 seconds.

A representative from the Guiness Book of World Records was on hand for the event and, at the end of the day, certified that the Venom GT was, in fact, the fastest car in the world.
