NanoScribe Prints Microscale SpaceShip

Nanoscribe GmbH, a Germany-based company that specializes in nanophotonics and 3D laser lithography, has recently released a video of their one of their 3D printers in action.

In the video, a series of light flashes move across the screen, and after a 50-second print cycle, a 125 micrometer model of a Hellcat Fighter emerges. Now Nanoscribe's mission isn’t to design the next generation of fighter jets or space planes. What the company is trying to demonstrate with the print is the fine detail that their machines can achieve on an incredible small scale.

In fact, Nanoscale claims that their printers are capable of “ultra-precise fabrication with feature sizes ranging down to 100 nm.” At that scale companies researching and developing technology within the biomedical, materials science, photonics and microfluidics fields might find this type of lithography valuable.
