hipKey uses Bluetooth and iOS to track your stuff

There isn’t a man alive who doesn’t lose track of his stuff from time to time.

And it’s always at the worst possible time, like when you're late for work and can't find your keys. Or you left your iPhone at home. Disaster!

With this in mind, inventors at the Danish startup hippih designed the hipKey.  The hipKey is a small, crescent-shaped device you attach to a valuable object.  You then track it to a paired smart phone.  It emits an audible alarm and vibration when the hipKey is moved out of whatever range you define.

The device uses Bluetooth 4.0 technology to wirelessly connect with an app on your iPhone or iPad.

If you attach the hipKey to your clothes, for example, the Alarm Mode will alert you immediately if you get separated from your iPhone or iPad.  If you are at home or the office, you can set up a custom ‘safe zone’ to prevent the alarm from sounding when you are moving around within the zone. In the Motion mode, hipKey uses a built-in motion sensor to alert you if it is moved. So if you put hipKey in your bag, you will get alerted if someone moves it.

hippih has recently announced the availability of the hipKey in the Apple Stores in US and Canada. It can also be purchased from the Apple website. In fact, with its curvy, crescent shaped aesthetic design, the hipKey looks visually compatible with the Apple iOS products. Its designers also considered durability, covering all the electronics hardware with a housing made of layered plastics and aluminum.

The YouTube video below shows a demonstration of the hipKey during the CES in January 2013.
