For over a century, the Geneva Motor Show has been a gathering point for car enthusiasts around the globe, or at least the ones who could make it to Geneva. Supercars, prototypes and technical marvels are debuted, giving the general public a peek into the future of automotive engineering and design. Here are some of this year’s highlights:
Ferrari LeFerrari
Originally named the F150, this car was subsequently renamed, presumably in order to make extra double-sure that customers knew who manufactured it. The Ferrari LeFerrari is powered in part by an 800 HP v12 engine. The other part is an electric motor that provides an additional 163 HP. With all of this power, the LeFerrari can accelerate from 0 to 62 miles per hour in under 3 seconds and has a top speed of 217 miles per hour. As fits the Ferrari brand and their contempt for round numbers, only 499 LeFerraris will be made, each with a $1,690,000 price tag.
Lamborghini Veneno
For those of you who can’t stand the idea of sharing your car with 498 other chumps, Lamborghini is introducing the Veneno. Briefly. Only three Venenos are planned, and will each carry a sticker price of $3,900,000.
So, what do you get for all of that money? First, there’s the modified Aventador carbon fiber chassis, which reduces the weight of this beauty by 280lbs. But that’s not what’ll turn heads – the Veneno’s body has been expertly sculpted to maximize downforce and improve aerodynamic performance. To complete the package Lamborghini has outfitted the Veneno with a 750 HP V12 engine capable of a 212mph top speed.
Rolls Royce Wraith
First produced between 1938 and 1939, the Rolls Royce Wraith was a symbol of opulence and class. What it was not was particularly fast. This year, Rolls Royce aims to fix that problem by introducing a new, less-Second-World-War-era Wraith. Powered by a 624 BHP V12 engine, the Wraith will go from 0 to 60 in 4.4 seconds. But what’s most amazing about the Wraith is its Satellite Aided Transmission technology, which synchronizes with GPS to select the correct gear for your travels. The price for all of this luxury? $319,357. A paltry sum considering its performance rivals that of the LeFerrari and Veneno. Plus, I bet it has a trunk.
