Defense Distributed Obtains a Federal Licence

Cody Wilson’s Defense Distributed project recently announce, via Facebook, that they had obtained a federal license to manufacture and sell firearms.

While Defense Distributed has been printing their own guns and uploading models to the internet since August 2012, the group can now begin selling printed gun components without fear of legal threat. Although Wilson now has the ability to sell guns he’s waiting for a final “add-on” license that will allow him to produce fully automatic firearms.

In the end, this license may help fund Defense Distributed while they undertake the enormous task of creating a 3D model search engine from scratch.
