The US NAVY’s LaWS (Laser Weapon System) is the realization of a weapon that the military has wanted for years. Rather than use metal ammunition the LaWS canon uses focused energy travelling at the speed of light as its weapon. Recently the weapon was successfully tested against a drone off the California coast.
