The spleen is an important organ, it filters pathogens from your bloodstream. For people who have damage to their spleen runaway infections can lead to severe medical complications and even death. A new invention from the Wyss Institute of Biologically Inspired Engineering at Harvard has created a “spleen on a chip” which uses “nano-beads” and a genetically engineered protein to clean a patient’s blood outside of the patient’s body.
