Designer Tom Dixon is in search of the most disrupting design. A 3D printed furniture design, that is.
As part of the Milan Furniture Fair, international designers are being challenged to remix Dixon’s latest designs into something extraordinary. The competition is co-sponsored by Dixon, Dassault Systèmes and Sculpteo.
Visitors to the fair got a close-up look at the Stratasys Mojo Desktop 3D Printer, which was showcased by Sculpteo. Sculpteo highlighted the professional quality 3D prints created on Mojo using Stratasys Fused Deposition Modeling (FDM) technology.
“Disrupt being the theme of the MOST Salone 2013, this design hacking contest is a natural way to go! Thanks to online social 3D experiences, anyone can be a designer today and express creativity,” Dixon said.
Participants will receive access to the design files of several new products, with the goal being to hack the original elements into new different and functional objects. The goal of the contest is to share the excitement, inspiration and creativity offered by 3D printing with the online designer.
Submissions will be judged by Dixon, Dassault Systèmes’ Strategy Marketing Director Frederic Vacher, and Clément Moreau, CEO of Sculpteo. The winner’s design will be 3D printed by Sculpteo on a Stratasys 3D Printer, to be displayed at the Maison & Objet trade show in Paris, and an iPad!
Entrants have until June 30 to submit their work.
