Brown offers high school students a “test drive” in engineering

We’ve all heard the frightening statistic that only half the students who enter engineering programs as a freshman will graduate with an engineering degree.  But what if those students had a better idea of what their engineering program would be like before they applied?  Would they self-select better?

This month Brown University began offering a free online engineering class in a MOOC (Massive Open Online Course) format.  This first course was limited to 500 participants and was full by the end of December.

The goal of the course is to help high school students better understand what it would be like to take an engineering degree in university.

It looks like the next course will run in June.  See the registration page.
