Pagani Releases Final Zonda Supercar

Fourteen years ago, veteran car designer Horatio Pagani introduced the world to his first Zonda supercar. Now Pagani is discontinuing production of the famed car, but this final version will leave a lasting impression.

Since the first Zonda rolled off the line in 1999, 23 different configurations of the car have been produced. From the original C12 to the barely street legal Zonda R, Pagani’s cars have always tiptoed a fine line between street and track. Nowhere is that more true than in this final incarnation, the Zonda Revolución.

According to Pagani the Revolución is a “car designed to amaze both on the track and in a car collection”. Powered by a 6.0 L Mercedes AMG V12 engine the Revolución will crank out 800HP. Although performance details haven’t been released, we expect the Revolución will beat the last version, the Zonda R’s performance, which clocked a 0-62 (100kmh) run in 2.7 seconds.

To complement its powerful engine, the Revolución sports a beautifully sculpted carbon-fiber body atop a carbon-titanium monocoque.  What’s even more impressive about the Revolución is its active aerodynamics. Armed with a Drag Reduction System (DRS) the Revolución’s aerodynamics can be modified by the driver with the flick of a switch.  At high speeds the DRS can be toggled to increase the amount of downforce on the car. Once the DRS is activated, custom designed algorithms calculate the correct angle for the car’s stabilizers to deliver performance that is always fast and in control.

At the Revolución’s debut Pagani said five Revolución cars will be produced.  The price for one of these amazing machines? $2.9 Million. While that’s a lot for a street ride, I see it as further incentive to get the Revolución on the track where it so clearly belongs.
