According to Andy Palmer, Executive VP at Nissan Motors, "The Nissan ZEOD RC is a natural progression that follows on from the development of the Nissan LEAF road car and the LEAF RC race car prototype. The technologies developed through the ZEOD RC program will form part of future innovations for Nissan road cars.”
Built around the same aerodynamic frame as Nissan’s Deltawing, the ZEOD only differs from that design in its choice of electric engine. While many have argued that the Deltawing’s design is hideous, its performance cannot be denied. Through the use of 3D printing Nissan has been able to half the aerodynamic drag and half the mass of its racers just by employing the Deltawing body.
While Nissan’s ZEOD only made an appearance at this year’s LeMans, the company plans to enter it into the race next year. If Nissan’s performance stats are correct, the ZEOD might put itself in a position to not only break the EV speed record but also take home the prestigious 24 Hours of LeMans title.
