NEi Software, recently achieving Solidworks Gold status, has released NEi Works 2013. NEi Works embeds NASTRAN within the Solidworks environment making complex FEA available in a comfortable user interface.
NASTRAN is a high end finite element solver. With the pre- and post-processor embedded into an existing interface, the learning curve to create accurate and reliable simulations is dramatically decreased. Putting simulation in the hands of the designer can theoretically shorten the design cycle as well.
I must confess to worrying about dumbing down FEA so any dumby can do FEA, but any advancements in ease-of-use and market competition is a good thing.
