Speed and History Unite in Jaguars New Project 7

Last week Jaguar debuted their Project 7 concept, a car based on their legacy of speed and success.

Since 1993 the Goodwood Festival of Speed has been one of most high profile venues in the world of supercars.  While several cars we’re debuted at this year’s event, one of the most awe inspiring was Jaguar’s Project 7 concept.

Named for the seven LeMans victories that Jaguar captured from 1958-1990, the Project 7 is unlike most concept cars in that it’s a fully functional supercar. Sporting a 5.0 liter supercharged V8 engine, Jaguar’s newest entry into the world of the ultra-fast is as aerodynamic as it is powerful.

Surrounded by a carbon fiber frame complete with a driver side fairing, the “7” will accelerate from 0-100km (0-62mph) in a 4.1 seconds and has a top speed of 299km/h (186mph).

When asked to comment on the history of the 7, Mike Cross, Jaguar’s Chief Engineer of Vehicle Integrity said “The overriding dynamic aim when developing [the Project 7] was ensuring a connected feel; it's a true, driver-focused sports car; agile, immediate, fast and, of course, fun.”

Unfortunately, only Mike and maybe one other person will have the opportunity to experience the agility and speed of the Project 7. Jaguar has stated that it’s only making one 7 model, so it’s not only fast, but exclusive as well.

Although the Project 7 may be beyond the grasp of us mere mortals, one of the things that intrigued me most about the car is its signature sound. You can hear it pop and bang as it speeds through turns in the video below.

Makes me wonder whether they got some help from the engineer’s at Callaway who were the subject of an episode of the Product Design Show about Designing the Signature Sound of Car Exhaust
