Designer Edge Image of the Day – The Greatest Formula 1 Race… In Light

In 1989 Ayrton Senna, considered one of the greatest Formula 1 racers of all time, reset the speed record for the Suzuka racetrack in Japan.  In commemoration of his achievement Honda has recreate Senna’s incredible run in a light and sound installation called “Sound of Honda”.

Guided by telemetry data collected by Senna’s team and augmented with realistic racing sounds designers at Hondas assembled a series of lamps that followed the pace and movement of Ayrton’s car as it zipped in and out of turns.

Not only does this project celebrate the life of an incredible racer, but it also shows off the power an idea can capture when engineering and artistry meld harmoniously.
