Inflatable Concert Hall

A partnership between British sculptor Anish Kapoor and Japanese architect Arata Isozaki has yielded a World’s first, an inflatable concert hall.

Created for the Lucerne Festival, an annual music festival, the purple, inflatable structure named Ark Nova can house an audience between 500 and 700 strong and will be home to performances that range from Kabuki theatre to a local workshop for children led by conductor Gustavo Dudamel.

Currently, Ark Nova is stationed in Japan’s Matsushima prefecture, however the structure will tour areas of the country affected by the 2011 earthquake and tsunami bringing music and culture to an area in need.
