Meixi Lake’s Undulating Pedestrian Bridge

Lake Meixi in Changsha, Hunan province, China is quickly becoming one of nation’s most rapidly developed areas. As part of the master plan for the regions “Dragon King Harbor River” development Chinese authorities have selected Amsterdam and Beijing based NEXT architects to build a large pedestrian bridge.

According to the harbors master plan the 150-meter long, 24-meter tall bridge will form vital connections across the lake allowing pedestrians free access to the both sides sprawling Lake Meixi.

Built to mimic both a moebius strip and a chinese folk art knot the bridge sweeps across the river on two planes. The first plane runs along a rather straightforward path that waves across the river with gentle undulations.  The bridge’s second plane is far more dynamic moving across its span in a near sinusoidal wave.

Unfortunately, there’s no word yet on when the bridge will be completed. When it is it will definitely be one of the defining features of Lake Meixi.
