Explosive combination of chemistry and physics simulation

ANSYS, one of the leading developers of engineering simulation software, plans to merge with chemistry simulation company, Reaction Design. The merger (read “buy”) should close at the start of the New Year.

Reaction design is best known for their program CHEMKIN-PRO. The software is capable of simulating model surface and gaseous chemistry. The plan is that when CHEMKIN is incorporated into ANSYS CFD simulation, the result will help customers simulate combustion processes.

Given the reduction of design time to final production, this merger should be quite interesting to the energy, transportation, and material processing industries. Though the combined software won’t eliminate experimentations completely, it may allow users to shorten their experimentation time.

"For more than 15 years, Reaction Design has helped companies around the world to better understand chemical processes. Combining its solvers with ANSYS' solutions will give customers new insights into the combustion processes in their products — driving increased fuel efficiency." said Jim Cashman, ANSYS CEO.

Either way, this chemmie is excited to see how the merged software will look on the computer screen.
