Just days after its successful landing on the Moon China’s Jade Rabbit has rolled away from the Chang’e lander and is exploring its landing zone, the Bay of Rainbows.
Over the course of the landers 3 month mission the jade Rabbit will make use of a suite of instruments to learn, in unprecedented detail, about the composition of the lunar surface. Equipped with a ground penetrating radar that can “see” over 300 feet beneath the surface, a number of cameras and a spectrometer the Jade Rabbit is sure to expand astro-geologist’s understanding of our Moon.
While no timetable for the return of data has been published I’d expect the Jade Rabbit will begin work soon given its short life time. As details about our solar neighbor coming flooding in, you count on us to bring you the details!
