STAR-CCM+ Design and Simulation added to SpaceClaim

Recently, CD-adapco and SpaceClaim announced the easy transferability of SpaceClaim models to STAR-CCM+. This has effectively added simulation compatibility to the 3D models created by the SpaceClaim software.

The transfer will now preserve data structure, nomenclature, design parameters, parts & assemblies, and more. The process also prevents the need to clean-up geometry later in the analysis.

The SpaceClaim 3D Direct Modeling software is CAD-neutral and allows for easy changes to the 2D/3D designs. Their customer list currently includes big names like: Toyota, Samsung, Nokia, Ford, LG and GE Aviation.

Chris Randles, SpaceClaim CEO, said that “engineers across organizations are using 3D to improve their workflow and end results. Smart technology companies are making it easier for 3D models to move between teams and allow input from many sources to improve designs before production … CD-adapco provides excellent tools for simulation and is making it easy for engineers to apply those tools throughout the design process.”

CD-adapco, on the other hand, is the largest privately held CFD CAE provider in the world. Their flagship simulation packages include STAR-CCM and STAR-CD. They specialize in CAE for fluid dynamics, heat transfer and structural engineering.

Jean-Claude Ercolanelli, Sr. Vice President for CD-adapco, adds that “SpaceClaim Engineer is an easy-to-use and powerful platform for 3D model pre-processing, making it a popular choice for many of our users … We work hard to help our customers compress product development schedules. STAR-SpaceClaim is a big leap forward, providing streamlined workflows and the means to capture important simulation data when it is most useful.”
