McLaren’s 650S – More Bang For SuperCar Buck

Ahead of the March 4 opening of the Geneva Motor Show British automaker McLaren has released images and a video teasing its newest supercar, the 650S.

While slim on performance numbers McLaren has divulged that its new auto’s name just overshoots the  641HP output produced by the car's 3.8L V8 engine. Sporting a newly designed, clean-lined body that’s accented with gullwing doors, the 650S was built to maximize downforce – it’s a good thing too.

With a top speed of 313km/h (207mph) and the ability to accelerate from 0-200km/h (0-125mph) in 8.4 seconds the 650S is undoubtedly a supercar. However, the auto's most impressive feature might be its cost. When compared to its nearly $1.5M, 727HP P1 cousin, the $335K 650S’ price tag seems like bargain, especially in the world of high price supercars.

To complete its design McLaren has also introduced a more refined transmission which offers faster gear changes and more “pop” when downshifting. On top of that a ton of attention has been paid to the auto’s steering system giving drivers a more tuned, sporty feel.

As the Geneva Auto Show nears McLaren has promised to release more info about its new, mid-range supercar. Once those details are released we’ll be sure to pass them along.
