At NASA’s Kennedy Space Center at Cape Canaveral Florida the Hennessey Venom GT has upped the ante for the world’s fastest production car, breaking the Bugatti Veyron Supersports 2010 record.
Equipped with 7- V8 engine the Venom GT can produce 1,244HP and, just over a 13 months ago, proved itself to have the fastest 0-300km/h (186mph) acceleration time on the planet, clocking in at 13.68 seconds .
In its most recent straight line run Hennessey’ Venom GT raced from a standstill to 435.3km/h (270.49mph) over the course of a 2.4 mile runway build specifically for S pace Shuttle landings . While the absolute top speed the Venom achieved is enough to beat Bugatti’s mark of 431km/h (267.8mph) the record won’t stand.
According to the Guinness Book of Records’ guidelines, if a land speed record attempt is to be certified two runs, moving in opposite directions, have to occur on the same day. Hennessey would have attempted that feat, however, NASA put the kibosh on the second run.
For now, Hennessey Performance will just have to settle for knowing it produces a car that’s capable of reaching the fastest speeds achieved by a production auto… That, and the fact they can ask $1M for each Venom GT.
