What happens when all your eggs are in one basket?

An Important first Casual Meeting about Electrical Energy Production

By Corporal Willy July 26th 2010

Innovative Electrical Generation  projects are being proposed here for the Las Vegas area if the political machine can get busy working through the red tape, so much needed jobs and electrical demands can be met.  The last time it was announce, unemployment here was at an all time high of 14.2%.  When all of your eggs are in one basket like Casino Gambling, a recession can hit very hard and that results in layoffs, loss of homes, bankruptcies, dropping out of college, loss of savings and many other financial hardships.  Even middle school and high school drop outs increase because of everyone doing something to provide money for a roof over the families head.   This is an all too often occurrence here in Las Vegas.

Today a meeting was held at City Hall in order to propose a project that can help greatly to cure the problem of unemployment, electrical demand and all the other things that come with it.  Mr. Dan Hyde is the Fleet Manager and Director of Clean City Las Vegas.  He has a fleet of alternatively fueled vehicles he must maintain for the day to day operations for city employees.   You can hear him talking about this initiative that will partner with the City of Las Vegas and the TEECO International Company at:  http://www.teeco-energy.com/   After you watch this recorded message it is hard to find anything other than a win-win scenario for both parties.

A small contingent of important people showed up for this initial meeting that was convened to inform those that attended about this proposal.  Each attendee could have a large impact upon the success of this project.  If support can be found for it, then everything would be built right here in Las Vegas and that would provide some great job opportunities when this project gets a foothold.   After an informative opening statement that laid the ground work for what was to come, Mr. Dan Hyde introduced all of us to Mr. Dan Parmley the CEO of TEECO International.

Mr. Parmley gave a lay out of his proposal that would be done here in Las Vegas.  Lots of investigation has already been started and Las Vegas was picked because of its attractions to people from all around the world, so it would not be too hard to get them here.  That would be half the battle to advertise this to interested parties everywhere.  We also have some facilities that could be utilized pretty quickly here.  Unfortunately we weren’t able to see the presentation that was prepared beforehand because the facility would have had to have advanced notice to implement those services.   But we were provided with a print out of several key points and features.

The TEECO ENERGY TREE is a combination and smooth blending of Solar Thermal Energy, Bio-Mass Fuels and Wind Turbine Generation.  Even the exhaust of the diesel driven generator is used to capture and store that heat for later and to help drive the wind turbines to generate electricity.  Desert winds are and can be pretty high but this area has been studied and the results say that we are not a good area for steady winds of about 20 mph.  It is important to realize that this system is essentially a standalone and completely self sufficient one that can be “hooked” into the power grid system.   It can also back feed or send power into the grid network to help ease the growing pains of expansion.   Mr. Parmley also told us that there are sizes from 1-5 megawatt that could be built.  As an example of normal residential demands for power, one megawatt of produced power could sustain 450-500 homes as an average.  A Rapid Response Energy Tree can bring power right to where it is needed and should be able to be up and running with trained crews in about eight hours time.  The Department of Homeland Security and the US Defense Department are particularly interested in this capability.  There is also a Communications Tower Capability to provide a center or even a relay point for data transmissions.  When hurricane Katrina hit New Orleans one of the biggest problems was communications after command centers went off line because of the lack of electrical power and cell phones die too.   Good communications capabilities are a very important consideration for the TEECO ENERGY TREE and it can do it.  Even a continuous supply of algae can run this Bio-Mass Fueled Diesel and there are other exotic fuel types that can be used as well, which can be supplied from many areas all around the world.

As I looked around to those asking questions it was obvious that there was an interest and a future meeting is planned for after Labor Day.  Then most people will be back from summer vacations and already back to the grind of everyday work again.

Today we embarked on a new possibility for Las Vegas and even though it will not be a cure all for all the problems here it is a step in the right direction.  There will be more meetings and more information will be disseminated to the public and Mr. Parmley said that this would happen soon.   Be well.  Corporal Willy.
