MBLOK - One memory for all devices

Anton Kabanov was frustrated with the lack of expandable memory and compatibility between his multiple devices. The average college student might have a tablet, a phone, a smart watch and a pc. File sharing between the devices is often difficult, and files might be stored several times on different devices. Cloud storage services help a little but when you don't have the internet, you don't have your files.

MBLOK, the memory block is designed to create a connection between all of your gadgets. The block can facilitate easy transfer between devices or act as a safe to hold all of your files for easy access.

Anton and his company, Kwelea, are running a Kickstarter campaign to fund a first run of MBLOK production. The company is made up of students and graduates from the University of Waterloo with a passion for using technology to simplify life.

MBLOK was designed to be the next generation of storage, small and portable but capable of talking to many interfaces at once. Up to 256 GB of storage fits on one MBLOK, and the battery life is expected to be up to three hundred hours.

Using Bluetooth 4.0 the company expects the transfer speed to be up to 2.5 MB/second and the storage will use 128 bit transfer encryption. The design of MBLOK is simple and elegant, brushed aluminum body with an integrated USB interface.

MBLOK offers a simple solution that could easily supplement phones or tablets that cannot be upsized. My 8GB phone, for example, was free with my phone plan but was close to full memory after three months.

File storage is going to be an issue for all of us as files get bigger and the amount of memories we want to keep online grows larger. This might not be the final frontier of file storage but it's definitely a leap in the right direction.
