MOSES V7.1 Offshore Structures Released

Infrastructure simulation software company Bentley Systems has released the latest version of their offshore platform software: MOSES V7.1. This marks the first release of the software since Bentley purchased, it almost a year ago, and since they put it under the SELECT licensing program last June.

This simulation software is capable of analyzing the hydrodynamics and hydrostatics of offshore oil platforms during installation and transportation to the drill site. The MOSES software also supplies users with mooring, motion, and stability study operations to ensure the massive equipment is up to regulations and standards. This allows engineers to improve the safety and reduce the risks associated with their operations.

The latest MOSES release “increases the software’s interoperability and extends the resulting information mobility that is a Bentley hallmark,” says Phil Christensen, Bentley VP. “For starters, it offers an enhanced ability to import SACS structural models into MOSES, along with the automated generation of SACS loading files from MOSES – enabling collaborative workflows among offshore structural engineering and naval architecture teams.”

According to Ian Emery, Engineer at Dockwise,“Dockwise has been using both SACS and MOSES for many years, and has established best practice procedures for jacket launch and topsides float-over installation. Recently, we have been pioneering their use on especially large and heavy installations, such as the successful topside installation and jacket launch for the SHWE field development project in the Bay of Bengal, Myanmar, which marked a significant milestone for Dockwise. The latest MOSES upgrade promises improved:

  • 3D modeling for optioneering
  •  Simulation language/script corrections and organization
  •  GUI to ensure model quality
  • Tools to model compartments and hulls
  • Meshing generation
  • Visualization of results using video

Christensen adds, “Through MOSES V7.1’s support of Integrated Structural Modeling, users are able to work within integrated and flexible structural modeling, analysis, design, documentation, and detailing workflows. This gives them the advantages of intelligent structural design practices, which can help them deliver offshore platforms faster while reducing project risks.”
