Cybersecurity Conference on Tactics, Trends and Crisis Management

From Walmart to Home Depot to Apple, big name companies are hit by cyber-attacks on a regular basis. Even high-profile government agencies and personnel aren’t safe, as seen with First Lady Michelle Obama’s information leak and when Revenue Canada (Canada’s IRS equivalent) lost hundreds of social insurance numbers because of the Heartbleed virus.

The elephant in the room: Where does this put your corporation’s IP and key data?

To help inform industry about the ever growing risk, how to reduce said risk, and how to mediate the damage, Johns Hopkins’ Information Security Institute (ISI), is co-hosting a Cybersecurity Conference. The Conference will be located at Johns Hopkins’ Homewood Campus in Baltimore and will run from October 31st until November 1st. The event will be co-hosted with North Star Group, a provider of cybersecurity, and the Whiting School of Engineering.

Anton Dahbura, executive director of ISI said, “Digital attacks against businesses are on the rise and are unlikely to go away anytime soon … These attacks can be extremely expensive to address after the fact and can inflict severe damage upon a business’s reputation and customer loyalty. Our goal at this conference is to share some of the best and most current information about how to protect business data from hackers and how to manage the aftermath of a data breach, should one occur.”

The Conference will include speakers from academia, government and business. Some big names include Johns Hopkins’ Dean, Ed Sclesinger; Christy Group CEO, Jim Christy; University of Maryland Accounting and Information Assurance Professor, Lawrence Gordon; and Willis North America COO, Eric Joost. Additionally, an as-of-yet unnamed speaker from the national intelligence community will also attend.

Theses presenters will cover topics ranging from trends in cybercrime, security tactics, crisis management, cyber insurance, and legal/regulatory/legislative topics. The presentations will target both nontechnical and high-level technical attendants.

Some other topics include:

  • Evolution of Cybersecurity
  • Global Threat Analysis & the Role of Human Intelligence
  • Creation of a Cybersecurity Ecosystem
