UK's Future Clean Technologies

Imagine a future where your toilet is cleaned without water, your home is insulated by robots and you can heat your patio without heating the planet. Imagine walking down a street where the paint helps fight air pollution, cars are powered by whiskey and you can stop along the way to charge your mobile in a solar powered phone box.

This future may not be far away thanks to innovative technology concepts from British companies shortlisted for Cleantech Innovate 2015. This event showcases early stage green innovations that come out of the UK. Today organizers have announced 36 finalists who will compete for a cash prize in front of of investors, buyers and industry specialists.

Held in London on 12 February 2015, Cleantech Innovate is backed by both the Department of Energy and Climate Change (DECC) and Innovate UK. The chosen finalists will have the opportunity to pitch their technologies and compete for a cash prize of €20,000 ($25,000 USD) provided by Climate-KIC.

“This year’s finalists are an example of the breadth and potential of the UK’s innovation in the cleantech sector. It’s great to see novel solutions for clean energy generation and water treatment alongside new and exciting ideas for introducing clean technology in our homes and cities,” commented Nick Smailes, Lead Technologist, Energy Systems, Innovate UK.

Now in its third year, Cleantech Innovate showcases early stage companies that, with the right investment, can underpin Britain’s green economy. Finalists are drawn from a variety of organisations, including university spin-outs, corporate R&D departments and individual entrepreneurs, and are chosen to present on the basis that their innovation is both investable and scalable.

Cleantech Innovate is organised by ecoConnect CIC, the UK's green industry business network, which connects individuals and companies working in the low carbon sector by providing essential links to investment, business support and industry expertise.
