ThermoAnalytics 11.3 Release for Infrared, Fluid and Thermo Simulation

ThermoAnalytics has released version 11.3 of their infrared, thermal and fluid-flow simulation software suite. The software release includes improvements to MuSES, for infrared and heat transfer predictions; RadTherm, for fluid flow and heat transfer CAE; and RadTermIR, for thermal and infrared simulations. The key improvements in the release comprise the graphics window rendering, post processing, fluid streams, and the ability to use phase changing materials.

According to ThermoAnalytics, the graphics window performance has improved by a factor of 10x-100x. This improvement will allow for faster rendering of 3D images. Additional algorithm improvements allow more color options and increased gradient contour accuracy. Overall, this upgrade is tailor-made for high-end graphics stations, allowing for larger models and faster development.

With the enhanced fluid stream algorithm, version 11.3 users will be able to generate convection paths through more complex geometry. To be more precise, the algorithm will allow for better centering and quality of the stream generation. However, the additional improvements to the editing, post processing, and the ability to cancel generation will also make for fast results.

The addition of phase change materials in ThermoAnalytics will allow engineers to simulate transitions from solid-to-liquid and vice versa. The algorithm is made possible by a multi-grid solver. Supported heat transfer applications include encapsulated phase change materials like those used in textiles and batteries. Other applications include defrosting and urea melting for heavy vehicle exhaust.

Finally, the new release sees a few post-processing improvements. Additional post-processing improvements contain new Zoom to max mode, improved large model post-processing, directly enter time/time step, and a new merge file tool to connect transient restarts or initiations. ThermoAnalytics reports that there are specific improvements to post-processing that will assist in radiation analysis while saving computational resources.

Other minor improvements in 11.3 include:

  • Thermal report GUI improvements
  • Thermal report auto-save in HTML5
  • Battery models supporting independent heat rates during charge and discharge
  • Solar lamp wizard for faster and more accurate settings
  • View factors support Intel MPI library
  • CAE coupling improvement
    • New Ensight exporter
    • Altair H3D file import/export supporting Hypermesh, RADIOSS, Optistruct and other Altair CAE software
