ZEAL EcoPower Racer gets over 4250 mpg!
ZEAL turned to Altair for their automotive consulting experience and their wide range of CAE software. The addition of multiphysics and built-in pre- and post-processing helped the team decide that the simulation technology was the right choice to support their optimized design.
These optimized design goals included weight reduction, composite material, crash and safety, fuel efficiency, fuel flow, and aerodynamics. These goals would naturally require the CFD, FEA and multiphysics capabilities of HyperWorks and OptiStruct.
To meet these goals, the team performed modal analysis, topology optimizations, composite material optimizations, static analysis and more. Performing all the simulations early in design allowed for an optimal design with optimal performance.

Zeal is a student innovation training program at Tongji University that was started in 2000. Since then it has grown into one of the largest groups in the University’s history. Its goal is to foster student innovation, teamwork, application of engineering knowledge and opportunities. They have participated and ranked significantly in the Honda China Energy-Savings Sports Tournament every year since it began in 2007.
