ANIMATION: NASA Images Dwarf Planet Ceres

While NASA's Dawn spacecraft is still racing towards its target, the dwarf planet Ceres, the intrepid probe hasn't been wasting any time. In a series of images taken on January 13, Dawn delivered the most high-resolution shots of one of the asteroid belt’s largest members. Granted, Dawn is still 383,000 kilometers (238,000 mi.) from the dwarf.

Over the course of the next few months Dawn will continue to update our view of Ceres as it nears its March arrival date. Once close enough to the dwarf planet Dawn will image the large rock bringing us that much closer to a complete understanding of our solar system.
