PTC PLM Cloud: New PTC Windchill SaaS Offering for SMB

Years ago PTC introduced PTC PLM “On Demand”, this was a SaaS offering hosted by IBM. PTC’s move was way ahead of it times even before PLM industry saw any noticeable cloud offerings. With its On Demand offering, PTC had correctly targeted their SaaS solution for SMB (small and medium business) which was expected to show if any interest in SaaS. Since SaaS adoption in product development field was very slow, PTC did not put any significant emphasis on its On Demand offering. A fair review would lead one to conclude amongst the top product development players PTC was the first PLM vendor to introduce commercial cloud based offerings when industry influencers did not predict growth of PLM in cloud.

Recently, PTC announced release of New PTC Windchill SaaS offerings for small and midsized companies.  PTC has played in the cloud segment with its old On Demand offering though its partners that have deployed some of PTC’s customers’ Windchill product in the cloud, though all of it is in the private cloud. PTC will make its cloud offering generally available in March 2015 and will offer three different flavors of PTC PLM Cloud.

  • Standard - Pre-configured based on PLM best practices, instant access and entry level pricing.

  • Premium - Flexible configuration to meet specific business needs, dedicated database and cost-effective for SMB.

  • Enterprise - Flexible configuration to meet specific business needs, dedicated database, cost-effective for SMB and integration with existing business systems.

PTC has not yet disclosed the pricing but has spelled out the options available in each flavor of its cloud offering, presented in the graphic below. Interesting fact to note is that all the options available for of PTC PLM Cloud will have an integrated viewing function that support for Creo, AutoCAD, SolidWork and Autodesk Inventor.
