Siemens, Thinkstep Launch Material Management Software

Siemens and thinkstep have announced a new integrated material management software capable of controlling both the material lifecycle of a product, and also guiding material-driven product design.

The new product, integrated into Siemens’ Teamcenter portfolio, will merge the once disparate threads of design, engineering analysis, compliance and manufacturing into a single, easily digestible material stream.

In addition to building data cohesion Siemens’ new material management software will also help reduce material processing and selection errors, slash recalls due to material error and assist in the re-use of market-tested material solutions for new products.

Racing to Select the Right Material

“Selecting the right materials is critical in order to achieve maximum safety, performance and reliability in our business,” said John Probst, technical director of  Chip Ganassi Racing. “The Teamcenter integrated material management solution opens up new horizons for us in agile materials management that spans design, engineering, simulation and manufacturing processes. In the racing world, where every second counts, we need solutions like this that enable us to create more innovative designs to give our team a competitive advantage.”

Sifting Through a World of Data with Ease

In the end, material management – from both procurement to properties – is critical for the success of any engineering venture. However, as we all know, too much data can be overwhelming. With Siemens’ new material management software volumes of data can be captured, stored and retrieved in a fashion that, not only makes sense, but can also help drive easier and better engineering decisions.
