A new tool allows CAE experts to convert simulation data from various software sources into the PLM, CAD and SDM (System Design and Management) compatible JT data format.
VCollab created the tool in the hopes that it would improve data sharing between product development teams.Siemens Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) Software created the JT data format as an ISO certified lightweight 3D file sharing format. The format is used for the visualizations and collaborations on 3D models, simulations and shapes.
Converting the simulation files into the JT format will include the simulation results, the simulation legend, and the CAE BOM. To assist in the integration with SDM and PLM systems, the VCollab conversion tool will also export Meta data into an XML file. The tool was created using Siemens’ JT Open Toolkit, which is designed to produce open source applications for the PLM community.

This comes at a great time as the adoption of JT continues to accelerate across a broader range of business processes.”
The conversion tool is available to users as a plug-in to VCollab’s professional viewer. It is compatible with a large list of simulation software providers including: ABAQUS, ANSYS, CFX, FE SAFE, FLUENT, LS DYNA, MSC NASTRAN, nCODE, NX software and STAR-CCM+.
The JT format plug-in announcement comes shortly after VCollab introduced their 3D PDF plug-in. Both of these tools aim to improve communications between teams, organizations, customers and suppliers in the development cycle.
